SUE SMALL
Throughout her long career in the fields of Graphic, Product and Interior Design, Susan Small has fulfilled her own dream of being able to earn a living as a Creative. Some of her work has even been featured in several print and online platforms, including Country Business magazine and Houzz.com, where her innovative RV re-design was one of the top 10 most viewed homes for 2018.
As rewarding as these creative avenues have been, retirement gave her a chance to step away from the computer and commercial enterprise and pick up brush and pen once again. In 2017, she began to do just that whilst traveling with her husband around the US and Canada in their RV. She began keeping sketchbooks memorializing all the natural beauty she encountered along the way. This is where her love of “en plein air” painting all started.
Since settling in Santa Rosa Beach a few years ago she has continued to be inspired by nature and landscape, moving from sketchbooks to larger works created in her new studio near the Choctawachee Bay. Susan works in acrylic, gouache, and all manner of mixed media and has mostly focused on sharpening her techniques and eye rather than trying to market her art. She has been busy teaching small art workshops in her studio as well.
Her art practice has become deeply personal to her and continuously inspired by the water and land that surrounds us here in Walton County. This is her first venture into showing her work to the general public.
