Celebrating 32 Years of Creativity in Walton County

The Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County (CAA) puts the power of the Arts center stage—celebrating their impact in enriching lives, connecting communities, and preserving cultural heritage. Rooted in Walton County, Florida, the CAA champions the Arts through advocacy, education, funding, and innovative programming. From visual and performing arts to public art installations and artist residencies, its dynamic initiatives uplift local talent, inspire youth, and drive cultural tourism. Check out our video below to discover how the CAA uses creativity as a catalyst for connection, growth, and lasting community impact.

A Legacy of Creativity and Community

The Cultural Arts Alliance (CAA) traces its roots back to May 1989, when a dedicated group of artists and volunteers—led by Susan Foster, Jan Clarke, and Jeff Ellis—organized the first Grayton Beach Fine Arts Festival, now known as the ArtsQuest Fine Arts Festival. Two years later, Foster and Hilda McDonald introduced a children’s art festival, which became the beloved Flutterby Festival. Both events were created to celebrate local artists and raise funds for after-school children’s art programs. Their success led to the formation of the CAA in 1993 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, ensuring grants and scholarships could be awarded to further support the arts.

Over the past three decades, the CAA has grown into a leading force for creativity, expanding its programs, events, and services while remaining deeply committed to its mission: fostering creativity through the inclusive and collaborative advancement of the arts.

A Recognized Leader in the Arts

In 2008, the CAA was officially designated by the County and State as Walton County’s Local Arts Agency (LAA) and became the administrator of revenues from the sale of Florida Arts license plates in the county. Today, the CAA operates out of the Bayou Arts Center, offering more than 200 art classes annually for adults and children.

As a driving force behind the region’s thriving arts scene, the CAA produces signature events such as the 30A Songwriters Festival, Valentine Tour of Homes, ArtsQuest Fine Arts Festival, Dine + Dive (supporting the Underwater Museum of Art), and the Flutterby Festival. Through its Art For All Program, funded by event proceeds and grants, the CAA has awarded more than $850,000 in grants to teachers, students, artists, and arts organizations—continuing its decades-long commitment to nurturing artistic expression and accessibility for all

Expanding Perspectives Through the Arts

Through advocacy efforts, support for the creative sector, and the production of arts and educational programming, the CAA provides opportunities for residents and visitors to experience diverse forms of art and learning. These efforts connect individuals to a broader perspective, encourage critical exploration, and offer answers only the Arts have the power to provide.
