Jonathan Kattine
My artistic journey began in Fort Walton Beach and Destin, Florida, where the coastal environment sparked my interest in creativity. I transitioned to spray paint during my teenage years, which deepened my exploration of vibrant expression and led me to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts in studio art at the University of West Florida. Throughout my college experience, I honed my skills across various techniques while also rebelling against traditional fine art practices. This defiance has significantly informed my current work, allowing me to blend different styles and approaches. My art reflects on the overall human condition while celebrating local wildlife and landscapes, often delving into dreamlike and surreal imagery. This duality provides a platform to explore deeper existential themes, making art both a means of self-expression and a therapeutic outlet. The challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted my creative process, but in early 2023, I embraced the opportunity to work as an Art Handler and assistant to Justin Gaffrey, an artist known for his innovative sculptural acrylic paint. This role offered valuable insights into the artistic process and encouraged me to experiment further with my craft. Throughout my artistic journey, I aim to balance reality and imagination within my work. I strive to create pieces that resonate with viewers, inviting them to reflect on their own experiences. While the path of an artist can be complex, it remains a rewarding pursuit that connects personal insights with broader themes of life and creativity. I continue to seek new ways to expand the boundaries of my art, inviting others to explore the worlds I create.
