About the Event
Join us September 14 - 16 from 9am - 4pm for a three day workshop with Theresa Grillo Laird - perfect for all level of painters seeking clarity and focus for stronger paintings!
Have you ever found yourself endlessly pushing paint around trying in vain to recapture the idea that initially excited you? So have I, and I can show you a way out of that frustrating dilemma. In this workshop you will
- learn how to discover and define your concept
- develop a dependable step by step process to help refine and strengthen your idea
- gain the confidence of knowing your way forward at every point
On day one, participants will take photos, sketch and make small color studies in the field. On days 2 and 3 we’ll work indoors drawing from these materials to develop a finished painting.
I instruct in oils but you can use whichever medium and colors you are comfortable with. If you don’t know what colors to bring, I can suggest the following palette:
Titanium White, Ultramarine or Cobalt Blue, Permanent Red or Cadmium Red light or medium, Quinacridone Magenta, Transparent Red Oxide, Yellow Ochre, Cadmium Yellow Light.
Bring your paints and sketching materials, a sketchbook, a means to take photos, small painting panels or suitable material for painted studies, one larger panel 12x16- 14x18, and a means to view your photos in a large enough format to work with.
Additional materials for ease and comfort when outdoors: hat, sunblock, insect repellent, small trash bags, paper towels, outdoor easel. I have a few easels to lend to whoever asks first.
INSTRUCTOR BIO:
Theresa grew up in New Jersey near the Palisades of the Hudson River. She started painting as a young child, deciding then to make art the focus of her life. In her early 20's, a sense of adventure brought her to Canada where for twelve years she experienced the culture of a country so close yet surprisingly different from the United States. After moving back to New Jersey, she settled most recently in the Florida Panhandle where she paints outdoors and in her studio in Gulf Breeze. Preferring the outdoors to city life, Theresa creates oil paintings that represent the intimate and emotional bond she has with her natural surroundings.
She has exhibited with both the Oil Painters of America and the American Impressionist Society, and her paintings have appeared in Plein Air Magazine's Portfolio and Postcards From the Road features. Her work hangs in private and corporate collections including the Permanent Art Collection of the Federal Reserve Board Bank in New Orleans. Her coastal works have been the subject of three solo exhibitions. Theresa teaches workshops and private classes and is an adjunct instructor for the Continuing Education program at Pensacola State College.
