Susan Knowlton

Susan Waguespack Knowlton is a fine artist specializing in acrylic and watercolor paintings. Born and raised in Covington, Louisiana, she received her B.A. in Fine Art and Elementary Education at Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama. Susan’s award-winning paintings are inspired by the world around her and reflect her Southern upbringing as well as her experiences living and traveling abroad. In addition to the time spent living in Southern states (Louisiana, Texas, and Florida), she has lived overseas in Venezuela, Australia and Singapore. Her transient life provided her the opportunity to travel extensively through Southeast Asia, Europe, and South America. Her paintings are an artistic response to the beauty in nature and the richly varied places she has called home. Susan loves painting the Louisiana swamp with egrets as much as she enjoys painting a scene she encountered in Hanoi, Vietnam, or a vineyard she walked through in Tuscany. She enjoys Plein Air painting as well as painting in her studio and participates in several Plein air events each year. Susan and her husband, John, relocated to Gulf Breeze, Florida in late 2019. Much of her recent work is inspired by the coastal scenery that has become part of her everyday life. Susan’s work can be found in many local and regional galleries, including the Dauphin Island Gallery, Artel Gallery, and Eastern Shore Gallery. Professional organizations include The Florida Watercolor Society, Watercolor Society of Alabama, Louisiana Watercolor Society, American Impressionist Society and National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society.
