Natalie Maxted is an American, British, and Finnish contemporary artist living and working in Destin, Florida. Since relocating to the Emerald Coast in 2022, she has developed a studio practice centered on portraiture and contemporary image culture. Her paintings investigate the female gaze and the psychology of being seen, exploring how images shape identity, perception, and memory in an era increasingly defined by mediated and synthetic imagery. Through bold, graphic color and psychologically charged compositions, she examines the tension between the painted image and the images that surround us every day. Maxted holds a BA from the University of St Andrews and an MA through the University of Warwick and IESA in Paris and London. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including in New York, London, Madrid, Monaco, Miami, and Strasbourg, and is held in private collections in the United States and Europe.
