Julie Harvey is a painter of large-scale contemporary abstract works on canvas. Her paintings are bold and gestural while maintaining approachable, thoughtfully balanced compositions.
Julie is a native of Franklin, Tennessee, where she lived and worked for over 40 years. In 2019, she and her husband decided to start a new adventure by relocating to Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, where she draws endless inspiration from the beautiful white sands, abundant wildlife, bays and waterways of the southeastern shore.
Her media preferences include heavy-bodied acrylics mixed with gel medium and ink on canvas. The process of moving paint is the essence of her work, and involves several stages of cutting and mending paint layers, revealing colors and forms lost beneath while building up additional planes of color and texture.
Julie received her Bachelor’s Degree of Fine Art, Concentration in Painting, from Tennessee Tech University. She also attended Belmont University, Middle Tennessee State University, and studied abroad before completing her degree in 1998.
