ANCHORED IN FREEPORT

Anchored in Freeport is the newest addition to the Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County’s (CAA) ever-growing Art in Public Spaces program — joining other celebrated initiatives like the Underwater Museum of Art, the Watersound® Monarch Art Trail, the U.S. Highway 98 Pedestrian Underpass Underpass, and a county-wide mural series.

In partnership with the City of Freeport, this creative placemaking project transforms 4.5-foot concrete anchors into captivating works of art designed by talented local artists. Each anchor tells a story — connecting Freeport’s rich maritime history with its vibrant present and exciting future.

Rooted in History, Anchored in Community

Freeport’s heritage stretches back to the 1830s, when settlers were drawn to its natural harbors — vital hubs for commerce and transportation. The anchor, a symbol of stability and strength, represents that history while also signaling the city’s growth and evolution.

Through custom-made, one-of-a-kind anchors, the initiative aims to:

  • Honor Freeport’s maritime legacy

  • Strengthen community identity

  • Establish new cultural landmarks

  • Celebrate local artistic talent

  • Invite residents and visitors into the heart of a growing city

This is more than beautification — it’s a celebration of place, a bridge between past and future, and an open invitation for connection.

Featured Artists + Sponsors

Each anchor will be installed in its sponsor-designated location, adding character and visual interest to key spots throughout Freeport. The below placement map highlights these planned sites, showing how the anchors will serve as both artistic landmarks and points of pride across the city.

Additional project sponsorships are available, offering businesses and individuals a distinctive way to leave a lasting mark on Freeport’s cultural landscape while supporting local artists. Learn more on our Sponsorship page.
