Join Courtney Krempa as she teaches the fundamentals of wheel throwing with clay. This four session workshop aims to teach you the basics of the wheel- centering, pulling, trimming, decorating, and glazing. We will spend two days creating, one day trimming and decorating, and one day of glazing. Beginners welcomed and encouraged!

Courtney is a mother and artist native to the emerald coast. She is a self taught ceramicist who began working with clay in 2013. First introduced in a college course, she quickly fell in love and has continued practicing since. What started as a quest to make her own set of dinnerware turned into a challenging yet exciting mediative practice for her. She originally started hand building but transitioned to wheel throwing shortly after. She now focuses on small batch, wheel thrown collections whenever she’s not surfing or spending time with her family. 

In 2015 she joined the Arts and Design Society, attending every open studio class she could in her spare time. After having her daughter she began a mentorship with local artist, Mercedes Rogers. During this mentorship she learned the ins and outs of clay, wheel throwing, glazing, firing, and managing a small studio from home. She has since set up her own home studio in her garage, where she now spends the majority of her time creating, if the surfs not up. 

The fluidity of her work is mirrored from her passion of surfing and the outdoors. Endlessly inspired by the colors, landscape, and the simple lifestyle of the east coast, she aims to make pieces that reflect these in a functional way. Whether it’s is through a coffee mug, flower vase, or bowl, she hopes to spread a little sunshine to daily life.
