Calling All Kids For The Flutterby Arts Festival

The Cultural Arts Alliance’s Annual Family Festival

Celebrates 25 Years November 11 & 12 in Watersound Origins

Santa Rosa Beach, FL – (October 27, 2017) The Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County is calling all kids to flitter to Watersound Origins to celebrate 25 years of the Flutterby Arts Festival. This year’s event takes place Saturday, November 11 and Sunday, November 12, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm on the green located directly behind Watersound Origins Café.

Produced by the Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County, The Flutterby Festival is a two-day event filled with arts, nature, science and fun in celebration of the migration of the Monarch butterfly through South Walton.

The festival will feature live entertainment for the entire family, including music, theatre, and dance. Art activities like the butterfly wing creation station, craft-making, henna tattoos, and face-painting will be available all weekend. Kids can also enjoy  the “Clay” butterfly learning center, carnival games, bounce houses, hula hoop contests, and a 25th birthday party complete with cupcakes and a butterfly parade at the end of each day.

Flutterby entertainment will be provided by Mari Gleason & Matt Miller, 30A Dancewave, Ohana Records, and The Emerald Coast Theatre Company Storybuilders.

Professional artists will be exhibiting and selling their work throughout the weekend, and official Flutterby merchandise featuring artwork by Grace Barnes, a 4th grader at Butler Elementary School, will be available for purchase. Additionally, attendees can participate in “Paint Splatters for #ArtMatters,” a collaborative art project involving throwing paint-filled balloons on a canvas to create a piece of art that will be used at CAA events for photo ops and promotion of the #ArtMatters campaign.

New this year will be several Plein Air (the act of painting outdoors) events beginning with a workshop on Friday, November 10 from 9 AM – 3 PM with local plein air painter, Joan Vienot. The workshop titled, Successfully Starting a Plein Air Painting, will focus on practicing identifiable shape-making in plein air painting, to help the artist create effective, readable shapes to greatly increase the likelihood of producing a strong painting.

Other Plein Air activities include a live demonstration with 2016 Visit South Walton Artist of the Year, Melody Bogle on Friday, November 10 from 3:30 – 5:30 PM, a Plein Air Quick Draw competition on Saturday, November 11 from Noon – 2 PM, Plein Air Paint Outs for both adult and junior artists throughout the weekend, and a Plein Air Wet Room Special Exhibit.

All Plein Air events convene at the Plein Air headquarters at Watersound Café. Visit www.CulturalArtsAlliance.com for Plein Air event registration, fees, and further details.

Admission to the festival is free and open to the public. Some activities within the festival require tickets, which can be purchased on-site. Volunteers are needed to help create all the fun.
