Learn the fundamentals of abstract painting from how to actually start a painting, use of mark making and other tools, different types of interesting compositions as well as use of color and value. We will use a process to play in the beginning, continue through the "scary" middle part (of doubt) and to be bold enough to clarify our work and to find when a painting is done. Supplies will be included however, you are welcome to bring your own brushes and mark making tools, if you prefer.

All skill levels are invited.

Instructor Bio:

Originally from the Chicago area, I have moved many times in my corporate career – living in and visiting many extraordinary places in my life. These places have had an impact on me and stay in my memories – ranging from a quiet walk in a dense forest in southern Germany to the same quiet walk on the white sugar sand beaches along the Gulf of Mexico, to experiencing the grandeur and opulence of Vienna to the incredible colors of light in New York City, Shanghai and Tokyo to the heat and amazing taste of southern Louisiana, among others.

I consider myself an abstract artist and love bright colors, contrast and textures. My process might start out with a certain intent, but it can also change along the way. I start by picking a pallet of colors (keeping it simple) and go from there. I use many layers of paint, mediums, tools and collage to build up my work and then often sand them down to revel secrets that have been previously covered over. I love large, bold brush strokes contrasted with different mark making. Although much of my work is truly abstract, many times the landscapes and nature in my memories definitely peek through. 

I paint for myself…it gives me comfort and a bit of an escape from the craziness of the world.
