During the Escape to Create 2009 Fall Writers Conference, Morris captured the interest of the participants with his written word and teaching style.  Morris states that:

"Writing at its best can allow us to see the world freshly again."

"It can transport us back to the frank fascination children embrace."

"Additionally, writing restores a sense of gratitude for life and those close to us, defeating the tendency to take things for granted."

The pitch-perfect dialogue of his debut novel, The Total View of Taftly, invited comparisons to Mark Twain and established his fiction as a “…dazzling combination of virtuoso prose and old-fashioned storytelling.” Waiting for April is a “complex, funny and sometimes dark…” coming-of-age story set in the lush world of the Florida panhandle. Morris is also a frequent contributor to The Los Angeles Times, The Wall Street Journal and The Oxford American.

Morris is the author of two acclaimed works of fiction, was selected to be an Escape to Create artist-in-residence in January 2010. As part of Morris’ community service, he will lead a one-day writing workshop on Saturday, January 23rd, at the Library at Redfish Village, from 10 am – 4 pm. Designed to sharpen writing skills, participants will be engaged in the creative process through exercises and critique. As an experienced and enthusiastic teacher of creative writing, Morris will also conduct a one-day writing workshop at the Redfish Village library. The workshop will jumpstart with a series of writing exercises. It will be a rare opportunity to gain new insights into which aspects of your writing style are the strongest and which can be honed further to connect with your readers. The workshop features writing advice, exercises and personal critiques. Registration fee is $50 and enrollment is limited.
