  • VSA Needs Teaching Artists
    Deadline:

Teaching Artists Are Called To Work With VSA Florida

VSA Florida’s (VSAFL) mission is to create a society where people with disabilities can learn though, participate in and enjoy the arts.  Headquartered at the University of South Florida; VSAFL is a member of the international network of VSA arts, a program of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.  VSAFL provides arts, education and cultural opportunities for and by people with disabilities.

VSAFL has funding to provide teaching artist residencies for children with disabilities.  The residency program consists of teaching artists in movement, drama, music or the visual arts providing hands-on experiences for eight one hour sessions.  Artists are paid $50.00 per hour and are required to complete curriculum mapping and a narrative evaluation of their sessions.  (These forms are on the website) The program provides art skills, increased social interaction, a means of self expression, increased knowledge of the art form and career information.  The outcomes include increased academic achievement, greater self-confidence, higher self-esteem and improved social relations and behaviors.

VSAFL is seeking teaching artists for our registry.  Please go to www.vsafl.org and complete the teaching artist application.  If you have any additional concerns, please contact Marilyn Farber:  mfarber@usf.edu or call 813-974-0712.
